Short profile

The Sihltal Zürich Uetliberg Bahn (SZU) is currently a private public limited company that was formed in 1973 as a result of the merger between the Sihltal Bahn (SiTB) and the Bahngesellschaft Zürich–Uetliberg (BZUe).

Funding

The SZU’s passenger services and the section of line between Ringlikon and Uetliberg that is not eligible for compensation are funded directly by the canton of Zurich. All revenue from the core business (transport revenue) and the incidental revenue generated from passenger transport go to the ZVV to reduce the overall costs of public transport. When it comes to infrastructure eligible for compensation, the SZU is funded directly by the Swiss Confederation. The track access charges and the incidental revenue generated from the infrastructure remain with the SZU and are used to maintain structurally sound infrastructure.
